Restricting pages and SEO

Postby cassel » September 12th, 2011, 6:53 pm

From what i understand, if a page (or a set of pages) is put behind membership wall and not accessible without the proper membership level or ccaps, Google does not "see" it, so it cannot search it, post it or rank it. I am wondering if using the conditionals INSTEAD of the level/ccaps protection would let Google search, post and rank the page/site?

You could set it up in such a way, but Google doesn't approve that you let them see something you won't let their searchers open when they find it in the results. And the searcher will have it avaialble in the Google cache.

So you can prevent Google from being sent to the Membership Options page, using conditionals you can keep it there and show him a preview, same as other visitors would see. If you write it well, it may help with SEO and enticing visitors to enroll.

I hope that helps. :)
