Opt-in on Aweber, confirm then go to S2 Member

Postby chuckr » September 28th, 2011, 9:30 pm

Hi,

First of all, THANK YOU for a WONDERFUL PLUGIN! I'm using the free version, so the only way I could thank you was by purchasing AWEBER through what I thought was your affiliate link. Thank you again!

OK, so here's what I ideally want.

1. Customers buy my product using a paypal button generated by S2 member for that particular LEVEL
2. Then they are sent to a Thank You page with an AWEBER sign up form (I figured out how to do this as per instructions on the first page "<input type="hidden" name="return" value="http://mysite.com/thank-you-page" />").
3. Then they confirm their email address (Double Opt-in)
4. When they click on the confirm link, they are sent to http://mysite.com/wp-login.php?action=register (on Aweber, you can set it up - using their 'Confirmation Success Page URL' option) where they create their username
5. S2 Member sends them their password to their inbox and they login

This way the customer HAS to go through my list funnel to get their username/password

Howeve, when I set it up like this, on step 4 the customer is taken to a page that says 'Registration has been disabled' (generated by S2 Member). I do have my return URL on paypal as http://mysite.com/?s2member_paypal_return=1.

Does this mean that S2 member is not being informed by Paypal of the transaction?

That is issue #1

Issue #2.
Because the above method didn't work, I incorporated the double opt-in checkbox to http://mysite.com/wp-login.php?action=register

So the process would be like this now.

1. Customer purchases product using Paypal button
2. Customer is directly taken to http://mysite.com/wp-login.php?action=register
3. S2 Member informs Aweber of the new double opt-in subscriber

When I set it up like this, the problem is that Aweber isn't told that it's a DOUBLE OPT-IN. Aweber says a confirmation email has been sent but the subscriber has not confirmed.

Another problem here is that the customer is sent two emails here after he/she sets up the username: one from S2 member and the other from Aweber (as soon as S2 member informs aweber of this new customer).

If anyone can tell me if I'm doing something wrong and propose a solution that would be greatly appreciated. If the PRO version has a surefire solution to this, I'd be happy to upgrade to PRO as well.

Thanks a bunch and look forward to finding a solution!

I was sure I had replied this before, but can't find it. Sorry for missing it these days.

If I were in your situation, what I'd probably do is send a generated password by email so they have to open it before they can access the account, sort of a double opt-in. Mention in the registration form and/or email the updates they'll be getting.

Then I'd deactivate the double opt-in so AWeber doesn't send a separate email about it. I remember there was a hack for this with MailChimp, but don't remember one for AWeber. I'll email Jason.

Thanks for the heads up on this thread.

OK. In scenario #1, here is how you would do it.
1. Upgrade to s2Member Pro, and use the success="" Attribute which is made available by s2Member Pro only. This way you can redirect to a custom URL upon return from checkout; and, with s2Member Pro's success="" Shortcode Attribute, s2Member WILL still know about the transaction; and thus, you'll avoid the problem that you mentioned with registration being disabled. See attached screenshot with s2Member Pro installed. There are also some additional details about this under s2Member -> PayPal Options -> Auto-Return/PDT when/if s2Member Pro is installed.

In scenario #2, that would work too, but you will need to turn off Double Opt-In from inside of your AWeber account. Please do this at your own risk though. I would recommend going with scenario #1 over this. See: http://www.aweber.com/faq/questions/66/ ... +Opt-In%3F
