Renewals of memberships - auto-EOT not being updated.?

I have about 240 members that I imported a few months ago. When I imported them I inserted an auto-EOT date of 12/31/2011. The memberships must be renewed annually at the end of the calendar year. When I make a renewal payment via Paypal the auto-EOT date is cleared and the 'First Payment Date' is filled in with the date the payment is made. I expected to see the auto-EOT date updated by 1 year. I set the Paypal button to 'subscription - one time, 1 year access, non-recurring'. Is that the problem? What am I doing wrong?

Well if the button is non-recurring the payment will be executed only once, so set it to a recurring button.

I changed the Paypal button to recurring and it still does not update auto-EOT.

I changed the Paypal button option to 'buy now' vs. 'subscription' based on a comment in your second 'related post' above and it seems to be working now. The auto-EOT date is being incremented by 1 year. Thanks for your help.
