S2Member Pro

Postby tgmblog » October 29th, 2011, 4:03 pm

I am currently using the S2 Member free plug in and have three quick questions. I am a new user.

1) I sell monthly, 6 month and yearly memberships. I set up the 6 month and 12 month paypal button and it was straight forward (everything has worked well so far --you guys have done a great job with this plugin). So far everyone signing up has paypal accounts. But I have a question? IF someone does not have a paypal account but wants to buy a 6 month membership. Can they hit the paypal button and allow paypal to process this? Or do I need S2member Pro for this functionality? To use S2member to accept credit cards for those without a paypal account but yet still use our paypal to do this? (hope this is not confusing!)

2) is S2member Pro a simple upgrade from S2Member? just pay up and upgrade the plugin? Or would I be starting over?

3) I am interested in allowing only those with a paid membership to post comments. Comments are easy enough to turn on. And there are going to be more than one way to achieve the objective. I know. But is there a way to use S2 Member and make this workable within S2 Member? What do you think is the easiest way to go about this? I am using tags with s2member and have yet to experiment with how this would treat the posts that have been tagged with the " paid members only tag" in regards to comments. It may be a straight forward as only those with paid access can post comments anyway because the post has been tagged. S2member may just escort anyone without paid access to the members only option page as soon as they try to comment. I have not tested this yet. I thought it would not hurt to ask since this may be something complicated or easy street. I wanted to get an idea on what we are in for before we activate this functionality on our site. Right now we allow no comments. And only want paying customers typing comments!

1. With s2Member Pro you can accept other credit cards, yes, I think with the free version you can only accept PayPal.

2. Yes it's just a simple upgrade, it simply adds the new functions etc. It doesn't change your configuration or anything.

3. I think it's pretty easy, in my opinion, just make the comments form not viewable by non-members with simple conditionals or advanced conditionals. You will find them under WP Admin -> s2Member -> API / Scripting.

Hope this helps. :)

Eduan's answers are mostly complete. I'll add a couple comments:

1. You can have users subscribe without them having a PayPal account or you having PayPal Pro, if you have the PayPal Enhanced Recurring Payments service. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=2634

3. It'd need to be done with advanced conditionals in theme. http://www.s2member.com/advanced-conditionals-video/

You can also play with editing the capabilities for the user's roles to try removing/restoring the comments functionality.

I hope that helps. :)

Thank you very kindly for taking the time to answer my questions. We are looking into that plugin that allows us to play with users capability!

I have just a couple more follow up questions.
1)Does S2 Member Pro have a different level of customer support than S2 Member?

2) It seems there is going to be more than one way to go about only letting paying members post comments. Does anyone want to take a stab at what the advanced conditionals would look like for this? This looks daunting to me because I am not a programmer. So would be curious on how extensive the code would actually be. We have only two membership levels free and paid. So we are looking to exclude the free (level 0) and allow the paid (level one) to comment.

thanks again for the advice

1. If you mean like that you're gonna get priority support, then NO.

2. Check the code, it's really very easy even for a bright 10 year old. I understand if you get intimidated, but just read everything there and you'll become an expert right away.
