Browser Security Warning on return from PayPal

Postby jevorby » December 5th, 2011, 7:57 pm

I've searched repeatedly in the forums but can't find an answer to this problem. Firefox is generating the following security warning just after payment. This worries me and my members. Thanks for your help!

That message is usually sent by most browsers, people normally see that in a site they trust and set it so that it doesn't appear again. This is, I suppose, something normal.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looking for a way to eliminate it. Don't want the first interaction with my site to be causing concern with payment. Solutions?

Hi jevorby, I'm not 100% sure but... is the page in question within your website or within paypals? If its on yours, is it going over https? It could be an issue with your SSL/security certificate...

Sometimes these messages are caused by hard coded links to http:// (either links or image paths) but this looks more like a possible SSL issue....

Hope that might possibly help!!

Zoe - Thanks for the help. Here's the page the PayPal return is worried about:

S2_security_problem_small.png

Spent some time following up on the SSL suggestion. Don't currently have private SSL cert for site, only shared SSL from my host. I believe the shared SSL will cause a certificate warning, so that may just add to worries. Would be great if I could just force this page inside S2 to SSL as in:
With s2Member installed, you can add a ‪Custom Meta Field‬ ( s2member_force_ssl = yes ) to any Post/Page. s2Member will buffer output on those special Posts/Pages, converting everything over to https:// for you automatically, and forcing those specific Posts/Pages to be viewed over a secure SSL connection; so long as your server supports the https protocol.
Then maybe shared SSL would cover it.

In any case, thanks for the input. My launch is being held up but it seems there isn't a simple S2Member solution to this.

Glad I could help, if only a little. Perhaps it would be worth getting a cost for a private SSL from your host if its holding things up!

Have you tried looking for other plug-ins that do the above? You might be able to run something along side s2member.

Cheers :)
