How to change Login fields???

Postby Confused_Dude » December 22nd, 2011, 9:04 am

I find the default members login form very odd!!! By default the members login form requests input of:

first name, last name, email address, display name (what the hell is a "display name? I don't know!).
Then the button at the very bottom of the login form reads "Save All Changes". To me that is confusing for people who are NOT making in change to their password.

To me this is a very weird, odd and CONFUSING form to display for a login page!!!

Most sites with login pages typcially request a simple "user name & password" and then has a simple button that reads "Login" or "Login Now".

How modify this weird login form that s2members displays by default :?: :?:

Hi, the display name is how you want people to see you, so your name might be John Example, but your display name is Johnny.

The password fields are only if you are changing your actual password (unless you're registering for the first time).

Hope this helps. :)

So what you want is to modify the options to change your user profile, correct?

Hi Confused_Dude,

What you're describing sounds like the Profile Modification Form, not the login form.

Can you tell me where you're getting the form from? Did you use a shortcode to generate the form? If possible, could you share the link to the login form so I can take a look?

s2Member uses the WordPress login form to authenticate users (usually found at /wp-login.php) and that form only contains Username and Password.

In my experience, most websites that have login pages, the login info requested simply consists of:

1) a user name

2) a password

To set up my login page I used the following shortcode:

[s2Member-Profile /]

My site is under construction so see attached screen shot to see the login page that s2member outputs asking for: first name, last name, email address, etc....

I don't want all this junk on a login page. How can I set up a simply login page that request just a user name and password for login with a button under the form that reads "Click here to login" or "Login Now"????

So you don't want users to see all that when registering and changing their info?

I do not know what more to say to explain and articulate that I want to present people with a simple NOT confusing login form. Is there anyone out there that understands what a simple login form consists of????
Can anyone understand that I simple want a SIMPLE login form that requests: User name & password.

Changing profile info/password etc, SHOULD NOT be visible on a typical login form. Profile change options should be available on some other page available to registered members but I don't want to present people with all this confusion on a login form.

How much more clear can I be? Is there anyone out there who comprehends what I am saying and attempting to do?

Could you please this answer?:
Are you referring to the form users have to fill to register (WordPress default = http://www.your-site.com/wp-admin.php?action=register)? This is the register form.

Or are you referring to the form in which users can modify the profile they already created (the one provided by s2Member). This is the Member Profile Modifications.

I'm sorry we can't answer your question, but login page would be the page in which members log-in to their account, in change the [s2Member-Profile /] shortcode is for Member Profile Modifications.

Could you please tell us which one it is (following the names I gave you)?
Could you please also give us the URL of the form you talk about?

Thanks, and sorry.

Confused_Dude,

You're using the wrong thing. [s2Member-Profile /] is not for logging into s2Member. That shortcode is not for generating a login page.

The [s2Member-Profile /] shortcode is for generating a Profile Modification form, not a login form.

s2Member uses the WordPress authentication system, so if you want to show a basic login form, simply point your users to your WordPress Login Page (e.g., example.com/wp-login.php).

There is no s2Member shortcode for generating a login form. You must use the WordPress Login Page or use the Login Widget that comes with s2Member Pro.

You can also use a 3rd-party plugin that creates login forms. See more about both these options here: http://www.primothemes.com/forums/viewt ... =36&t=2781

Ok RAAM,

Now I understand!!! Thanks you for clearing this up for me. I did not understand that the profile member short code was something completely unrelated to the login form. Now I understand the difference.
All is well!!! Thanks to all of you who offered advise and support. Much appreciated! :D
