Customers don't have or don't want Paypal Account

OK, have been playing with this for a few days now, and am quite impressed. Nice product/documentation/forums. All good. I can't seem to get around one scenario.

I will have members who will sign up for my site. Sign up will be one time/lifetime - not recurring. When I create the button it takes me to Paypal page where they are "forced/asked" to create a Paypal Account. That will more than likely scare a number of people off.

Within Paypal > Website Payment Preferences I have PayPal Account Optional as on, however it says When this feature is turned on, your customers will go through an optimized checkout experience. "This feature is available for Buy Now, Donations, and Shopping Cart buttons, but not for Subscription buttons."

It seems to me that all the buttons I can create to subscription for levels.

Does anyone have the answer to this?

Going to Paypal Pro starts the $30.00 monthly fee, not ready to go there.

An option to Paypal Pro is Paypal's ERP (Enhanced Recurring Payments)
You can still use the Paypal Forms with s2Member Pro.

Are u using s2 to create the buttons? U can use s2 pro and another merchant like ccbill but u will have to pay around $400 a year to accept visa. If somebody is really interested with your product they will most likely use whoever you use.

Thank you for your responses. @Elizabeth. I did read your link and it does respond to subscriptions or recurring payments. "s2Member ( and s2Member Pro ) are both compatible with (ERP) Enhanced Recurring Payments, as they apply to Subscriptions. So if you add ERP to your PayPal account ( it's an upgrade ), your Customers will no longer be required to have a PayPal account during checkout, and this is compatible with s2Member. Nothing to change, and nothing special you need to do. All you have to do is simply upgrade your PayPal account, by adding the ERP service. PayPal charges $19.99/mo for this service.", which is where I was (or trying to) asking if there is a Buy Now button opportunity if your site does not take subscriptions.

Just to clarify.

1. PayPal Standard ( free )
- you only pay processing fees per transaction
- Customer checkout @ PayPal ( NOT on your site )
- "Buy Now" transactions do NOT require a Customer to have a PayPal account.
- Subscriptions "require" a Customer to have a PayPal account though ( always ).

2. PayPal Standard + ERP ( Enhanced Recurring Payments ) = $19.99/mo.
- Same as PayPal Standard, except...
Customers are NO longer required to have a PayPal account ( ever ), even for Subscriptions.
- Customer checkout @ PayPal ( NOT on your site )

3. PayPal Pro ( $30/mo + Recurring Billing service ) = $60/mo total.
This allows you to keep Customers on your site throughout the entire checkout process. You can accept Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover, Maestro, Solo, and ALSO offer PayPal® as an "option".

For the benefit of other readers... If you are declined for PayPal Pro, or you simply cannot afford PayPal Pro ... ERP ( Enhanced Recurring Payments ) is a great alternative. Yea, starting to look like the U.S. government over there eh? However, they do take on a great risk by catering to XXX ( i.e. adult oriented ) sites. Thus, the HUGE percentages.

And that's what I understood, but he mentioned in his opening post that it's not a recurring payment what he's having this problem with.

Did I understand that correctly, rliddle? If so, buyers should be given the option to pay without a PayPal account.

Yes, that is true, I am working on a combination of the s2 button and the paypal button that may work, will post syntax after testing.

For the benefit of other readers. Sometimes it looks like PayPal® is not offering your Customers the option to pay by credit card ( to YOU ), due to cookies on your computer. I've seen PayPal's layout change over the last several months, but I know for certain that if you have a PayPal cookie on your computer, they will detect it ( even if you're not logged in ). When this happens, the checkout experience is tailored to YOU, and the credit card link is usually very subtle in that scenario. If you clear your browser cookies, you can usually get a better picture of what non-PayPal account holders will experience during checkout.
