Possible? s2member pro integration with FB login, etc

Hey guys,

I am running a website for a non-profit and want to charge members, have members-only content, and have a free level of membership, using s2member pro. I also want users to be able to signup/login with Janrain Engage/RPX - the information from FB/Google/etc would then be populated inside the s2member payment interface (paypal) and be sent to my WP database.

On first glance looks like this should be possible, no? Janrain Engage creates "Free" users, which it can definitely do, and then somehow those users are forwarded to a PayPal Pro payment page instead of the site homepage. If they quit the payment, they'll stay on as 'free' members, have access to 'free' areas of the site, and be regularly prompted to upgrade, while if they do go through with payment they'll be assigned to one of s2member's 'membership levels', with the associated benefits.

In both cases, users should be able to use Janrain Engage/RPX to log-in to their accounts, whether paid or free.

Can this be done? I need to know before paying for s2member Pro.. Thank you to the community for the help!

Great question guys.

Yes, s2Member has been tested with RPX. It works fine.
Here is how I would recommend setting up your Membership offering.

1. Have EVERYONE log in first, which will force the creation of a Free Subscriber account. In other words, they MUST first log into your site with Google/Twitter/FaceBook/etc... which tells WordPress to create a "Free Subscriber" account for them automatically. ( this is required )

2. Upon logging in, s2Member will redirect them to your Login Welcome Page, as configured under: s2Member -> General Options -> Login Welcome Page.

3. On your Login Welcome Page, you should include "PayPal Buttons", or a link to an s2Member Pro Form, which will allow the Free Subscriber to upgrade themselves to paid status, at Level #1 or higher.

4. Upon completing checkout, s2Member will automatically update the status of their account.

You might want to have a look in your WP Dashboard, under: s2Member -> API Scripting -> Advanced Conditionals. Using s2Member's Advanced Conditionals, you can get more creative with your Login Welcome Page, which will ultimately make it a smoother integration for you.

RPX works with s2Member, and also with s2Member Pro.

i just got done testing .... wordpress multi site 3.0.1 ...s2member latest version and janrain engage latest version plugin

google worked and created an account .... facebook and twitter did not ..... yahoo i believed worked

until janrain and s2member can work i am going to use facebook connect plugin ... if you can please verify in your own testing the above results

Thanks for sharing your experience. Does FB connect plugin work perfectly with S2Member?

I haven't done detailed testing yet, but RPX seems to have intermittent issues.

Thanks for the great question.

Have you tried using s2Member's API Notification email for the Registration event? Please check your Dashboard under: s2Member -> API Notifications -> Registration Notification -> Email Addresses.

I just added "%%role%% = subscriber" to my registration notifications and my Emailadress.
Works great
But I think right now I will recieve two confirmations, when a user registers the regular way.
May I solve this by using the "%%user_pass%% = generated" ? Cause using the Facebook login will generate a passwort and the regular way is to select a apssword...
Am I right?

what URL must be entered in the "Registration Notification URLs" field?

If you just need an email Notification, you don't need to enter a URL. Just scroll down to the bottom of each API Notification panel and enter an email address instead. Does that help?

So long as the Facebook integration is calling upon `wp_create_user` internally, I don't see why not; and I believe it does. That being said, please let me know how this goes for you. If it does not work, we'll see about making this possible.

Hey Jason,

works fine for me, except the fact, that if somebody registers the normal way (not using facebook account )I will recieve the standard registration confirmation email and the API Notification email...
haven´t found the option yet, to disable the standard email notifaction (i am using buddypress).

I've already tested all video commet plugins. Contus seems to be the one, that allows me to store the videofiles on my own server... but it fails trying to connect to my server... I will go on and try to solve this Anyway... thx for your hints....

P.S. I agree. This Contus plugin seems to have a fatal error in WP 3.1. So you might want to report that to the developer of this plugin and see if there is a solution they can offer.

Hi, I have confirmed that I have Janrain Engage installed properly, but the icons are not showing up on my login/registration page (http://www.explosiveoptions.net/wp-login.php).

I believe I have set everything as described according to the thread here, but I can't figure out what's going on. Can you help? I don't even know what other info to give you at this point.

Thanks -- for the record, I'm an idiot, and forgot that I had SuperCache on -- it simply hadn't refreshed in the cache. Once it did, it worked properly.
