MultiSite Member Access

Postby Tiffany165l » April 10th, 2011, 4:23 pm

Hi! :D
I have recently been setting up s2Member for a friend. I have really enjoyed the ease of use. Today I added two sites to his Wordpress. Since I needed to add two more blogs.
/chefstable/
/chefsrecipes/

I upgraded to MultiSite (Config). I read that you do not yet have a solution to bridge the site restrictions across all three sites, main and two sub-directories.

Do you have a recommendation for a Plug-in or solution.

I want the customer to be able to register on the main site and only have access to sub-directories after registering.

Thank you in advance,
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany.
Thanks for the excellent question.

No, we don't have a solution for this yet. It's a feature we're working toward, but it's not ready for the show just yet. Unfortunately, there really is no quick-fix for this, as the issue is relatively complex once you get into the thick of it. Until this feature is available, you'll need to protect each of your Blogs with a separate instance of the s2Member plugin. s2Member IS compatible with Multisite Networking, just not in the way that you're describing.

Thank you Jason for your quick response!

Before I start working on plan B the work around :). I want to make sure I asked the question correctly...
Are there any plug-ins that a member can create a there member account on the 3rd level and be able to access two blogs that are sub-directories. Like, to transfer the member information to-->/chefstable/
/chefsrecipes/.

Just crossing my figures one more time...

Sorry, not yet. Hopefully in the near future though.

Well... The only parts of the site that need to be protected at this time are the chef's blog and the Recipes. So I moved the Penny Talk blog to the multi site and left it unprotected. Then set up the Chef's blog under the main site and posted the recipes as pages (protected). Not how I originally pictured it, however it will hopefully work until my friends :D (you at s2member) LOL, come out with a fantastic solution! ;)

I am not a programmer by any means. I look at designing websites as advanced scrapbooking... :D . Saying that, it seems to me that it should be not hard (for someone that knows what they are doing, not me) to push the member id's and passwords to the sub-sites. They are under the same domain name. I am sure the working around Wordpress is the issue. Either way I think that your plug-in is great and look forward to working with you on new websites in the future. I will have Gracie Publishing make a donation as soon as they are making money and I am not working for free.

PS - Jason I am half way through Zeitgeist: Moving Forward...
